She was born on March 21st, 1966 in Kerala, India.
Shobana is the niece of the Travancore sisters (Padmini, Lalitha and Ragini who were actors, dancers and performers in Tamil and Hindi films) and Sukumari (an Indian actress from Kerala who has acted for more than sixty years).
She made her acting debut in the 1971 Hindi film, Amar Prem, and had her first starring role in the Malayalam movie April 18 in 1984.
Shobana splits her time equally between dancing and acting, and has won accolades for both.
She has her own school for classical Bharatanatyam dance in Chennai- kalarpana.
